Supervision

Introduction

I am a clinical supervisor who leads with a strong supervisory alliance, developmental fit, and a clear focus on client welfare. I utilize the Discrimination Model and a developmental lens to flex among the roles of teacher, counselor, and consultant while scaffolding growth in intervention skills, case conceptualization, and professionalism.

My supervision practice explicitly broaches culture and power, integrates ethical-legal standards, and supports supervisee wellness and resilience. By observing recorded sessions and offering constructive feedback, I strengthen supervisees’ deliberate practice and reflective competence.

Purpose. The purpose of my supervision portfolio is to evidence a transparent, ethical, and equity-oriented supervisory practice that develops competent counselors and protects clients.

Overview of Contents. Materials include supervision agreements and informed consent forms, session agendas and progress notes, evaluation tools aligned with competencies, remediation templates, supervisee feedback summaries, and supervision hours logs. These artifacts demonstrate structure, accountability, and responsiveness to supervisee developmental levels.

Professional goals. My professional legacy begins with the therapeutic and supervisory environments I strive to create by helping clients and supervisees feel accepted, encouraged, and celebrated. I hope to help clients overcome challenges and alleviate symptoms through intentional changes that help them build an authentic life that meets their life tasks and goals, while supporting supervisees in developing the strengths and competencies that best support their potential. My commitment to building mutual respect and egalitarian therapeutic alliances is built upon assisting clients with identifying strengths that best support their potential.

In support of my legacy, my professional goals include a lifelong journey of understanding systemic and cultural factors that impact diverse populations and enhancing my competency through continuing education. This aligns with my core values to sharpen my counseling and supervision skills and best serve my clients, supervisees, and the communities I am and will be a part of. I am grateful and committed to this lifelong journey because I am committed to my curiosity, courage, connection, and contributions as an Adlerian counselor and supervisor.

Kayla’s Supervision Development Plan

Supervision Goal 1: Aid and support supervisee growth through their supervision goals

Action Steps

  1. Create and implement reflective prompts at the start and/or end of supervision sessions to adopt consistency in self-reflection skills. This can help supervisees participate in more self-evaluation amongst their professional growth. This begins in month one and can continue in each supervision session.
  2. Be intentional and specific when assigning reflection activities for supervisees to complete in between supervision sessions. This may include completing a supervision prep form, journaling, reviewing recordings from clinical sessions, and case conceptualizations. The goal is to promote self-awareness. This begins in month one and can continue in each supervision session.
  3. Adapt to the supervisees’ preferences when asking for feedback. This may look like an open dialogue with questions surrounding their feedback, survey questions, or an open journal. This begins in month one and will be reassessed throughout the semester (midterm and end-of-semester).
  4. Lastly, find a way to adjust with the feedback given to best adapt and adjust to meet supervisee needs. Ideally, I will take the first feedback during midterms, then at the end of the first semester, then continuously.

Supervision-Focused Research and Scholarship Goal 1: Begin researching information that supports my ideas for dissertation

Action Steps

  1. Engage in a comprehensive exploration of academic resources and literature to help me identify specific gaps that could support my dissertation interests. This will be completed by month two.
  2. Write a literature review that highlights key concepts and findings to further investigate. This will be completed in month four.
  3. After this draft is completed, I will share it with peers, mentors, and professors for constructive feedback. This will strengthen my research and can be done by month five.
  4. Lastly, I can prepare for submission to an academic conference or journal that would best fit my research. Ideally, this would be done by month eight.
